the last

the last 03:03
You told me that everyone is welcome You told me it’s safe to be myself But you showed me how my different is too different Why must I always be the last You told me we’re all in this together You told me a family we’ll remain But you showed me you’re not ready to know the real me Why must I always be the last I see it in your eyes I’m sadly not surprised that you’re unable But I miss your warm embrace I so wish there was a place for me at the table But don’t worry, I won’t spoil the party I’ll go and make it easier on you But some day you might wish you’d done this different Because the present can’t be reclaimed when it’s the past And the days race on and on so very fast Why must I always be the last

What would I say If I could say anything Possibility is frightening Would I command the stage Even with random thoughts The pressure to be vital I’ve got nothing to say But I’ll say it anyway Just to break the silence Of this cold white page Ever reminding me I’ve got nothing to say Where are the words To Keep my mind From telling me “not this time” Just to be heard I’ll repeat a line I heard in another life All eyes on me As if the very next thing Will define my existence I’m weak in the knees It’s all in my head, but my head won’t stop It's persistent Where are the words To Keep my mind From telling me “not this time” Just to be heard I’ll repeat a line I heard in another life Must’ve been someone else’s life... I’ve got nothing to say But I’ll say it anyway Just to break the silence

Let’s Dance and sing like we used to When they play their guitars it feels just like youth We’ve traveled so very far, go every and no place And when I hear those songs I can almost touch your face Memories so sweet and so bitter So deep though so feeble, seem destined to wither On the vines of our inrooted lives Withered, dither, bother, fodder Withered, dither, bother, dither Withered, fodder, bother, dither

about

A special little release from Moi. Set as "pay what you will", not because I don't value it. More because I want to share it with you, whether you are into buying music or not. I would ask that if you don't pay for it, maybe consider "paying it forward", and buy someone's album. You likely know a local band, artist, songwriter. Being a strong believer in supporting our local arts benefiting ALL, I'd encourage you to develop a habit of doing so regularly, if you don't already have one.

Either way, much love to you. And hope you enjoy.

"Wither" was co-written with a dear old friend of mine, Brian Halloran. GREAT lyrics, Brian!

Steve Peffer lent his skills to "The Last" and "Nothing to Say". Thank you again good sir!

The rest I pulled together, with love.
